Members
The Bulgarian Association of Tissue Banks has 5 organizational members. These are independent tissue banks, hospital based tissue banks, and transplant financing organizations under art. 17 of the Bulgarian Organ, Tissue and Cell Transplantation Law of 2003.
There are also 215 individual members.
List of the BgATB’s organizational members:
- Tissue Bank Pirogov, a hospital based tissue bank founded in 1960 and serving the local need for conventionally processed allografts. Tissue Bank Pirogov is one of the first European tissue banks.
- Tissue Bank Osteo-Centre Bulgaria (OCBG) is the first independent tissue bank founded in 2002, specializing in musculo-skeletal, cardio-vascular, skin and tissue for research recovery. OCBG is a subsidiary of OST Developpement SA, a French tissue bank licensed by the French Government to conduct tissue banking operations throughout France. OCBG has carried out more than 350 successful full tissue recoveries in 2004.
- Tissue Bank CytoNet, a local branch of CytoNet, Germany, specializing in recovery, processing and transplantation of liver cells recovered from organ donors, where whole organ transplantation is not an option.
- International Eye Bank “Sofia”., a hospital based eye bank, serving the needs for corneal tissue throughout the country.
- The Euro Atlantic Transplant Alliance (EATA), a public, non-profit, non-governmental organization authorized by the Bulgarian Government and by Law (ref. art.17 of the Organ, Tissue and Cell Transplant Law of 2004) to provide finance management and fundraising services to the national transplant system. EATA’s leadership involves high-profile respected public figures, professionals, professors, senior clerics from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian Muslim Council.
